Märklin 3000
BR 89 006
The idea to do
this project came up when I saw a BR 89 with a digital decoder
installed was pulling a Märklin sound car which is about 4 times longer then
the loco by itself. Also the sound is not original, not synchronized to the
wheels
and 2 digital addresses were used.
This project was done without any modification on the frame of the loco.
Märklin's smallest HO Locomotive on
the test stand after the conversion
to digital with mfx decoder including sound.
The faked rear lights got
replaced by 3 LED's mounted on a PCB board.
The 3000 after the conversion
from inside:
In the middle the ESU LokSound mfx decoder with two 16mm speakers.
On the right side the High Efficiency Propulsion 5pole motor.
The PCB board on the right with 3 LED's for the rear lights,
and between the top speaker and the PCB board the cab light LED.
A closer look to the front part with front light, speaker and sound decoder.
Here the rear part with the HEP motor 2nd speaker and the PCB
board for the tail lights and cab light.

The front with the modified bulb holder. A special part from Märklin prevents
the light "Flickering" by isolate the bulb from the frame ground.
The green wire in the picture will be the connection for the smoke
generator from Seuthe.
