Märklin TM800
3004

Here is a little story about the conversion from traditional AC to full digital with
original sound of an 55 years old Märklin locomotive. The loco was running
fine before, but there was a big interest to see how it runs after the conversion.

.

The TM800 traditional AC running on 3 rails.

Underneath the body the old reverse unit, not very easy to adjust.

The LMCM (Large Flat Commutator Motor) on the right.

The backside with the gear box.

The stripped TM800.

Autsch! This needs to be cleaned and some of the gears should be replaced.

After the cleaning

A part of the former reverse unit mounting frame was cut out to provide space
for the digital decoder and the speaker.

Here will be the room for a 23mm speaker.

The speaker at his new home. Behind the speaker is plenty of room for the decoder.

The conversion set of a High Efficiency Propulsion Motor.

Assembled.

Motor installed in the engine. The permanent magnet is huge.

Decoder is installed, the 20mm speaker with baffle on the left.

Here is the digital decoder LokSound from ESU.

The permanent magnet.

The front of the locomotive with front light connectors and speaker.

First run on the test stand.

After the completion and a little touch up another test on the new test stand
from SFA Modellbau, Germany.

Another view.

Back on the layout.

The loco runs great, the sound is original from a BR 80.
